For an interview with Newsmax.com, Altman & Associates founder and Chairman of the National Capital Area Chapter of the Financial Planning Association, Gary Altman, Esq., offered his advice on what to look for when selecting a financial advisor.
Gary stressed the importance that the advisor will act in the client’s best interest, even if it means that they will make less or no money and suggests that the ideal advisor would be an experienced, fee-only, CFP.
When asked about setting realistic goals for a retirement plan, Altman warns that withdrawing too much the first years can deplete the account too much. “It is really important what happens in the first few years after retirement. So, I would set a low withdrawal rate the first few years to allow for continued growth after retirement.”
